kidney for Lacey

In 1981, After a 100 lb. weight fell and crushed her spine, Lacey was left paralyzed from the waist down.  Doctors said she would never walk again, but she proved them wrong.  She learned to walk on braces and crutches, and adapt to everything else her one older brother, and 4 sisters could do.  She was unstoppable!  Then the day came where she needed the use of a wheelchair, and Lacey was faced with new challenges, but also new horizons.  She took part in a local wheelchair sports camp where she learned how to play sports from her chair.  From there the sky was the limit for Lacey, and she began exploring other sports as well.  At age 14 she started ski lessons and finally found her passion on the snow.  Participating in the local winter games, Lacey caught the racing bug, and it was all down hill after that.  She moved to Park City, UT after graduating from High School to pursue her dream of making it to the 2002 Paralympic Games in Salt Lake City.  After only two years of serious racing and dedication, she not only made her Olympic dream come true, but she exceeded it.  She won two bronze medals in the Super G and Giant Slalom!  But she didn’t stop there.  She went on to win the World Cup overall the next year.  Then tragedy struck.  Lacey’s kidneys, having taken the brunt of an under developed bladder due to her paralysis, gave out.  At the peak of her ski career, Lacey was faced with yet another life change....
